We have multiple clients not getting emails in... and clients having troubles getting emails to spark based email clients. Almost total black it in some clients with even inter-account emails on same email account getting killed silently. The mail server logs show nothing usable for diagnosis other than a spam detected message. Talking with other mail providers who are seeing the same issue across multiple clients. No common pattern s seen @spark .. We could use some help resolving this as the emails don't even end up in the junk bin but are just dropped. Randomly redirecting me to a login page for my Huawei modem
Hi everyone. Just hoping someone can shed some light / educate me on this... First - the equipment... LG G6 cellphone, running Android 8.0.0 Huawei 4G B315s-607 broadband modem Activity... Browsing at home, over a wireless connection between my phone and the modem Here's what's happening... When going from one website to another, I occasionally get redirected to a login screen for the modem. It never happens when I'm going to different pages within the same website. It can happen when I click a link from a Google search, or if I just type a web address directly and hit enter. Most of the time when I re-try (e.g. by clicking on the same link), I get the same redirect. But if I type in the web address, it works fine. Occasionally it happens even when I haven't clicked a link (i.e. I typed the website name). When that happens, I back out, re-try and it seems to work. There's no obvious pattern. It might happen for a website today and the same website might be fine tomorrow. Background info... I've had this modem for quite a while (2 years?) and it's only started happening in the last few months (3 months maybe) I've never logged into the modem (it's a plug 'n' play thing, without any user configurable options as far as I can remember, and it worked from day 1). I don't even know if there is a username or password. I recently did a factory reset on my phone (for unrelated reasons) but that's made no difference - I was seeing these problems before the reset and I'm still seeing them now. It's never happened when using my laptop or desktop. Just my phone (which is how I connect to the web, most of the time) I'll see if I can upload a couple of screen captures... This first one from when I was deleting a bunch of redirects from the browser memory - I started typing "Spark" and it displayed a long list of the redirects that it had done... And this one from a different day, showing the page that I get redirected to... Any thoughts?(edited to add captions to the screen captures)

Weird 19th century question
I don't use cell phones and never have. But I do possess a Spark phone that has been sitting in a cupboard. Now I need to set it up for emergency use. It has a new SIM and is working correctly. But - please don't laugh - I don't have the number and can't figure out how to get it. I can ring out without any problem but can't ring to the phone. Can anyone tell me how to find the number in the phone? Thanks.

Configuring Huawei HG659b router to block Google DNS
I am trying to setup Google's DNS' to redirect it to the router. I did find an old thread(2015 Dec) on the same. However the router's user interface is different from the one I have and am not sure which setting to be changed. Any help is appreciated.

Lower download speeds post upgrade from Spark Huawei Hg630b
Hi allI bought a TP-Link Archer VR600 (can't link to the product as I'm new here) from PB Tech to replace the standard VDSL router provided by Spark.Mainly to provide better WiFi, but I entertained a mild hope I'd get better D/L speeds overall. Monitoring from Speednet and Usenet showed that the old router./modem would top out at 2.1 - 2.3 MB/s, which was great (as I'm rural). After putting in the new router, I now see speeds of 1.7 MB/s max. Whilst this is first world problem, it vexes me.I've gone to the extent of playing with MTU size to see if any improvement could be gained there, but 1492 seems the magic number. So, basically looking for assistance to see what - if anything - can be changed. There's a QoS option in the admin system which I'm guess picks up certain values from Spark; namely:Max Upstream Rate: 1056kBpsMax Downstream Rate: 16853 kBps The latter value seems to correspond to the max MB/s that I'm seeing now....but that the previous router managed to exceed. Does firmware play a part? IE the Huawei is able to ignore the settings and max out based on absolute maximum speed as opposed to a derived value? Any thoughts would be most welcome! Thanks!

Issues with calls from Spark SIP, Mobile and Analogue to Fax Server on Vodafone SIP
Got an issue today with calls from Spark SIP, Mobile and Analogue Lines to a Vodafone SIP trunk with a Fax Server. The RTP to the Vodafone SIP trunk stops after a second immediately after a "PT=Comfort noise" packet from Spark, from what I see on my wireshark capture. I have tested from Vodafone and 2Degrees mobiles and I don't get the same issue. This was not happening prior to today and does not happen to voice calls on the same trunk.Does anyone know about any changes within the Spark Voice platform that could have this effect on the fax calls? It's like they are auto detecting the fax an implementing a suppression feature.

30 day "cooling off" period?
My sister-in-law dumped her phone line and is on a mobile broadband 12 month plan with Spark (60Gb at $65/month from memory). Out of interest I started looking around other providers and found that Skinny offer pretty much the same for around $20 cheaper. It's been a couple of weeks since she started with the Spark plan - do they have a 30 day "cooling off" option to get out of it or is that's a U.S. thing only? CheersEdit: Thinking a bit more, maybe this could be the case only if mobile reception is poor and is affecting the broadband.

mx for lightsurf.xtra.co.nz
Silly question, but why list an MX for lightsurf.xtra.co.nz when it's not accepting mail? This means instead of emailed replies to sms messages (see this) bouncing back immediately you get retry messages until your mail server decides sorry, it's not going to work out.

Am I getting the correct information?
I'm just starting a new restaurant/bar so I rang the Spark business people to arrange for fibre to be connected as their website shows it is available at that site. After talking for a few minutes I'm not sure the business person is giving me the correct information. He tells me that for 3 EFTPOS terminals and up to 7 tills plus laptop I will need a managed connection at $617 per month. Or I can go with a basic fibre connection for $150 per month plus a specific Cisco router at another $130pm.So my questions are:I don't think I need a managed connection and static IP addresses mostly based on the cost, but am I being unwise?Do I need to spend $130pm on their Cisco router, or could I buy one up front and it will cost me less in the long run?Do you have any advice on my setup that might lead me in a diff direction?I know those are quite broad, but I'm also open to anyone who thinks they can give me a better setup that doesn't make me feel like I'm being taken advantage of.

Is Spotify Premium Coming to an End?
Been a Spark customer for a while and when looking to upgrade my plan I noticed they had changed the text on the plans page to read "Spotify Premium for up to 24 months". I wonder if they are looking at bringing it to an end. "Up to" could mean 1 week! Strange wording.

Blocking ports at SPARK before the traffic hits my firewall
Hi,Like most who look at the firewall logs, it is littered with numerous attempts to connect to the public IP address assigned on port 22 and port 23.Some people may want legitimate SSH traffic into the firewall, 99% of us do not, and the telnet port is just internet junk traffic from old devices. Could spark introduce an option to block ports we select before it hits our edge device.I know this should be possible as filtering of other posts already happens at the ISP level. Many Thanks

Spark Modem HG659b - Track IP usage ?
My Smart TV connects to the router via wifi. Anyway - i tried to reconnect the wifi today & everything is working fine except the TV. Is there a way on the HG659b modem to a) see if anything is trying to connect to a specified IP address. b) Tell the modem - that a certain MAC address should have priority access. The TV tells me its MAC address and the IP it is trying to use / connect to my Wifi with. However the only useful information is "connection failed". im wondering how to test a) is it TRYING to connect ?b) if it is trying to connect with the correct details - Why is my modem refusing access. is there a log file i can see - preferably filter by MAC or IP address

Weird fibre issue
This really puzzles me. Got fibre with Spark. 3 weeks ago, our internet suddenly stopped working. I could still access a few sites. Alexa also still worked. But majority of sites not accessible. Sometimes we can watch YouTube and Netflix on the TV, sometimes we can't. Spark told me to get a new router. Fixed the issue. It's back again now. As I write this, the kids can watch YouTube on the TV (connected via WIFI). I can't on my phone however. I can only access Geekzone via 4G. As mentioned, last time, Spark asked me to get a new router. That fixes the issue, but it's back again and now they've asked me to get another router again. Is it really a router problem, since I can access some websites and we even can watch YouTube and Netflix at times on TV?

Spark router problems for elderly relative. What should she do?
I have an elderly relative who is a long-time Spark user. She now has two problems with the Spark VDSL router which was supplied in 2010/2011:The router configuration is awry. For example, the router firewall showed as disabled but I wasn't able to enable it when I visited earlier this week. She loses access to her Google Chromecast v2 every day and has to restart the router to see it again. The same applies if I use my Chromecast there - my Chromecast works fine everywhere else I use it including regularly moving around a few networks with a laptop used for presentations. The Spark rep told her that they would - generously, she thought - sell her a new router for $99 at a 50% discount. He did not try to resolve the router configuration issue which is the more serious concern for me.I'd like helpful ideas for what she should do.I don't think that she is getting good support. But it has been a painful experience every time I speak to Spark on her behalf. The last time was when she moved house a couple of years ago. When I rang up this time there were wait times of over an hour so we took the callback option - no call was returned before I had to leave a few hours later. She could change ISP to save $10-40 a month and maybe get better service. But she is reluctant to change ISP because she is halfway through the one year Netflix offer so she would have to pay a termination fee if she leaves before the end of June.I could instead drop my old router in to save her money but then I have to install it and spend more time supporting her.

Spark Socialiser - Conditions
I've been looking at different plan options for my mobile and came across this in the Socialser conditions. There are other instances where Socialiser can't be used and charges will apply. This includes the following: The use of voice and video call features External links in newsfeed, timelines, walls, etc. External URLs in comments, messages, etc. Links to applications Links to external advertisements Enabling or navigating to features that rely on location services Facebook features that navigate you out of the site and/or application such as Get directions, Buy tickets, etc., and/or importing contacts from an external email domain, clicking on a user's email address and so on Background camera app usage on Facebook Pages Manager apps on Facebook Using the Opera browser on Facebook or Twitter on your mobile I can understand the limitations on external URL's and links etc but I'm curious why they discriminate against Opera browser? Not that I'm a user of either Facebook or Twitter but I am a fan of Opera. I'd have though this limitation would apply to any browser. Anyone have any ideas?

Wireless Broadband change of plan refused because of congestion.
My Auntie is trying to change to Unplan, she is aleady on wireless broadband. She does not use Netflix or Lightbox so is currently paying for stuff not being used, paying approx $80 for landline and 60GB.When asking to change plan said area is congested and change of plan is not possible. I've told my Auntie this sounds like really bad customer service as she is already using spectrum, so when an area is congested no one can change plans - that sounds crazy to me, I understand them not signing up new customers, but locking plan changes? Is there anything that can be done, all months to date she is below 60GB and unplan will save around $13 a month - does not use Netflix or Light Box.Or to get a better deal will she need to get fiber with different internet provider, she is currently on wireless as a bit iffy about getting fibre installed and is not a big user, and wireless already set up thought it would be easier for her to get unplan. She is in South Dunedin.
