Spent ages trying to figure out how to get my D-Link DIR-895L to connect to the internet running DD-WRT. The solution can be found on a reply on an older forum post, but I missed it so thought to post it here clearer. Is super simple but it is just knowing the startup command to run at the end.The key settings provided by Spark on their website are:PPP protocol: PPPoEPPP username: user@spark.co.nzPPP password: passwordVID (or VLAN): 10Firstly reset your router to clear any settings on DD-WRT you may have fiddled with.Secondly, on the setup go to Setup->Basic Setup->WAN Setup and change the mode to PPPoE, and enter the Spark details as shown in the image below.Thirdly, go Setup->VLAN's. Move the tick in the "W" column down to Link Status 10 and ticked tagged on the bottom. Don't bother about moving the "Assigned To Bridge" setting as it just reverts back to 2.Fourthly, go to Administration->Commands set the below two lines to be Startup.nvram set pppoe_wan_ifname=vlan10 nvram commitThen reboot, wait a minute and you should be good!I got lost trying to change the VLAN tagging settings in networking but there is no need.Hope this helps somebody!

Spark modem and ONT cable
1. At the moment i got a CAT5e cable running from the Spark HG630b router to the ONT, so is CAT5e alright or should i go with CAT 6 cable. 2. Also should i use the HG630b router or switch to the HG659b because i got port forwarding done with HG630b for my remote cctv footage. Cheers

Spark vs Skinny mobile roaming
Without playing devils advocate I can't help but notice the better value you receive with Skinny's roaming packs - getting an additional 500mb for the same price. Spark is constantly touted as a premium network that has these value added services and I can see this reflected in my monthly account. But it's just a shame that Skinny can go and offer 1Gb of roaming with their $20 packs. Who knows. Maybe it'll change in the future.

Emails received as spam - Spark Customer only
Hey Guys,I am having an issue where a friend of mine who owns his own business is sending out invoices and statement at the end of each month, the customers who are with spark (@xtra.co.nz email address) are not receiving this and a message is being bounced back to the sender advising the message was blocked due to spam content. These emails are generated automatically from his invoicing software and are in plain text with a PDF attachment of their statement/invoice.The message body and subject is similar to the below:"Please see attached Invoice/Statement INVXXXXX"Any ideas how to prevent this? Spark helpdesk have been no help. I have suggested he contact the technical support for the invoicing software to see if the format of the messages can be changed (We could not find any useful options in it's settings) but they have been refusing to help also and charge $85 per 15min for the privilege. As far as we know this problem has only started in the last month or two.The Invoicing software is called Synergy.

Random ADSL Disconnections
I am after suggestions on what may be causing random DSL disconnections. Currently the connection will remain stable for up to 3 - 12 hours then connect and disconnect a number of times over 2-5 minutes. I am out in the countryside in Whangarei about 2.5km from the nearest cabinet. All lines are underground. When the internet is working the speed is very good for ADSL, however when streaming video or working in Xero the repeated disconnects become very annoying. This has only become an issue over the last few weeks, however it has been very dry up here so water in the cables is unlikely to be the problem. The stats from the modem are below. I am not sure if the error rates are high or low, or have any significance. The modem is an old Telecom Technicolor TG582n. I don't have a spare ADSL modem currently so would need to purchase one to test if modem might be the issue.Uptime: 0 days, 0:21:45DSL Type: ITU-T G.992.5Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 1.073 / 12.397Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [MB/GB]: 195,24 / 1,99Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 10,0 / 19,4Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 21,2 / 36,0SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 7,0 / 11,4System Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB / ----Chipset Vendor ID (Local/Remote): BDCM / BDCMLoss of Framing (Local/Remote): 104 / 0Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 38 / 0Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0Loss of Link (Remote): -Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 775 / 269FEC Errors (Up/Down): 10.272 / 64.573CRC Errors (Up/Down): 422 / 452HEC Errors (Up/Down): 3.626 / 11.911Uptime: 0 days, 0:39:28DSL Type: ITU-T G.992.5Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 1.073 / 12.397Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [MB/GB]: 204,73 / 1,99Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 10,0 / 19,4Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 21,2 / 36,0SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 3,5 / 9,3System Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB / ----Chipset Vendor ID (Local/Remote): BDCM / BDCMLoss of Framing (Local/Remote): 104 / 0Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 38 / 0Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0Loss of Link (Remote): -Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 851 / 298FEC Errors (Up/Down): 20.688 / 130.997CRC Errors (Up/Down): 1.000 / 1.105HEC Errors (Up/Down): 9.399 / 40.087

Telnet access to HG659b for setup
Hi,I have deployed this HG659B as our wireless access point off a Cisco layer 3 switch (the aironet device we used died last week). Our main firewall is a cisco security appliance to sparks fibre connection. (vlan 10).The gimped HTTP setup up of the HG659B is bad, it disables a lan netmask of anything other than a class c (255.255.255.0).What is the admins password for a telnet connection to the HG659b so I can change the lan netmask ?Many thanks(yes we will replace the HG659b wireless in time to something more suitable)

New House - Previous owners Spark Fiber - How to speed up the disconnection
Hi Guys I'm after some clarification. I've purchased a new house. I take ownership and move in tomorrow (15/1/19). The previous owners had spark fiber. They provided 30 days notice to spark and spark have scheduled their disconnection for some date in February. A couple of weeks ago I signed up with another ISP (2degrees) to provide fiber to my new property. They have advised they can't start the connection process until the previous spark connection is disconnected. Based on this info I spoke with the previous owner of the house who informs me he contacted spark and they indicated they would have chorus disconnect the old connection on the 14/1/19. I contacted 2degrees to inform them of this and they indicated they still see the disconnection set in February.Their advice is that once I have ownership of the property tomorrow I should send them paperwork to prove this and they can then start an abandonment process. The previous owner swears he has spoken to spark and they indicated they would disconnect the old connection on the 14/1/19.Is there anyway I can have spark verify this? As I'm not named on the account they don't want to talk to me on the phone. Is there anything else I can do to speed up the process as 2degrees have indicated that it may take a significant time period to have the previous connection disconnected and my new connection connected. If anyone has any experience with this or other advice it would be much appreciated as potentially being without internet for an extended period of time is something I want to avoid if at all possible. Thanks for your timeJosh

Spark goodwill & loyalty credit
Has anyone had any luck recently getting goodwill & loyalty credit from Spark recently? Every 12 months I ring up and get them to price match what the competition is doing, and they do this by offering the above credits to bring the bill down. However, when I rung up today they didn't want to offer anything passed the advertised plans. I was apparently on the retention team but when I said that I was most likely going to be moving fibre/landline & mobile to another provider they didn't seem fussed. Just said that they no longer have the option to do anything more because of the new unplan. Thanks

Copper line discontinuation, mum given a 4g phone router?
Ok, so, Mum: "can you do this I don't know how" as she hands me a Spark branded 4g wifi router.Of course, I only get half a disjointed story about it, and I'm not up with the play on the current situation. Apparently she is "the last one on the street with a normal phone and Spark has told her she has to use this for her phone now it will be cheaper", this is in suburban Christchurch. It's a 4g router, with a line port for the phone. As far as she says has not signed up for any broadband plan, but I would not take that as gospel. There are multiple phone jacks in the house, but *right now* she only uses one of them.Is this kosher or has she been sold into something she shouldn't have been? I remember vaguely the copper POTS network being discontinued, but I'd have expected that to wind up being spark or whoever running fibre and fitting a VOIP to the POTS demarcation point when the time comes so that all the phone sockets in the house "just work" and that would be part of "line maintenance"?Is using multiple phones in a house not the done thing any more, I don't use phones myself so I really don't know what is common.

When does Spark change your public IP address?
I was wondering how often does Spark change your IP? Also if you purchase a Static IP for the ridiculous $15 a month do you keep your current IP or are you issued with another?

Nokia Repair under warranty
Apologies if this hits twice I seem to have lost my original messageI have a Nokia 6.1 and 7.1 both purcased form Spark unlocked and are used on Skinny Direct. The 6.1 has a problem if you reboot it and shuts down and does not restart. Sometimes by leaving phone and then holding start button down for 30-40 secs it comes up but today nothing would start phone.I took phone into Spark and filled out lots of forms and they will send it to Telegestics which Spark own. They then asked for my unlock code. I said that there was no code as I used a pattern, but I was not happy with providing this to Spark as it would expose all my data eg mail dropbox etc and I did not see why they needed it. I have no problem with them wipping phone when they solve switch problem. I am sure they have access to Nokia software that can reboot phone. I have that software myself. Spark insisted they would not repair phone unless it was returned unlocked.Does this sound right? it seems to me it breaches every security standard out there. On another note I asked about a loaner as it will take several weeks to fix, they agreed un til they found I was using Skinny and then said No can do. Despite Spark owning Skinny also seems a bit ungracious.I am now in process of changing all my passwords just in case which brings up a new question. Does anyone know a good encryption product for Dropbox and google on phones and windows PC's?Thanks

Spark/Telegistics Phone Damage
Hi - Are there any Spark reps on here that could possibly assist with an issue I've had with a phone being returned from Spark/Telegistics with "what" appears to be tool damage. Telegistics denying they use any tools that could cause damage to housing (Looks like a gouge mark).Courier not accepting liability.Spark shop in denial. No action/update from the complaint I emailed to spark..I'm assuming the only option I'm left with is the disputes tribunal which I assume will become a he said/she said. If Only I'd taken photos in advance. Any advice/help wold be appreciated. Thanks

New Unplan? Am I missing something?
So back when I got my fibre installed I was paying around $115.00 per month for the 100mb plan, think that was all that was available at the time and was one a 24 month contract with free installation etc. Now my contract is nearly almost up and was looking at the plans and currently I am looking at around $75 a month for the 120 gig plus plan, which is $40 cheaper than what I am paying now... Ofcourse this is not the entertainment package because apparently i can't claim the Netflix gift if I already have on a previous contract, which makes Lightbox far less appealing as its kind of lame and I only watch Better Call Saul and Vikings on it for an entire year. Is there a catch or something? I am getting exactly the same product minus the two entertainment subscriptions that were free anyway... Like does the plan have shaped speeds? I am slightly confused. Last i read broadband prices were supposed to be going up, not down.
