I noticed Spark is doing a big planned outage this week for their broadband. Anyone got any idea what is this for? Something big and exciting coming up?https://www.spark.co.nz/help/servicealert/broadbandservicealert

New roaming data packs from Spark
Just received:Spark announced today it has launched new Roaming Data Packs for 16 countries in response to a phenomenal increase in the amount of mobile data used by customers travelling overseas. The company has seen a more than 460-per cent increase in the total amount of mobile data used by customers travelling to China in an average month, in the last three years, followed by large increases in data usage throughout Australia. Spark is launching two Roaming Data Packs today, giving customers 1GB of mobile data across one week. The Australia Roaming Data Pack can be purchased for $39 and the Roaming Data Pack for 'Zone 2' countries (which includes China and 14 other countries) will cost $49 for one week. Spark Home, Mobile & Business Chief Executive, Jason Paris says it's no surprise Spark customers are using their smartphones more while travelling - particularly in China. 'With the NZ-China free trade agreement opening up a raft of new business opportunities between the two countries, we're seeing our customers not only travel more often to China, but the need to stay connected while they are over there is more important than ever before. 'Whether it's responding to emails, talking to their family back home over Facetime or video-conferencing a client elsewhere in the world, mobile data is the thing they need. Our new Roaming Data Packs allow them to do all those things affordably and easily whether they're in Beijing, Sydney, Seoul or New York.' New Zealand China Trade Association (NZCTA) Chairman, Martin Thomson, welcomes Spark's new roaming packs and he says they will only make things easier for New Zealanders doing business in China.'Growth in trade, investment and links in general between New Zealand and China since the signing of the NZ China Free Trade Agreement has been tremendous and more and more New Zealand businesses are wanting to partake in that. Anything that can be done to make the experience for New Zealand businesspeople visiting China a little less daunting while pursuing new opportunities - like affordable access to data roaming - has got to be a good thing,' said Mr Thomson.Mr Paris says customers needn't worry about being stung by a hefty data bill on their return home. 'Spark's MyMobile app tracks the data, texts and calls customers are chewing through on their trip so customers can be fully across their mobile usage throughout their trip. Customers can also set up roaming data caps and alerts for when they're close to their data limit.' said Mr Paris.

Another breach at Spark/Yahoo?
We have had many occurrences of spam messages being sent from Spark customers accounts, have found no malicious software on any of the machines but a flood of hundreds of sent messages in the users address book on the Spark webmail website.Passwords have been changed but this still appears to be happening - This is also happening when these machines are powered off which is another nail in the coffin for the issue being st Spark/Yahoo's end.Is anyone else experiencing this?

Who to contact @ Xtra if an IP is blocked
Hi. We have a customer (Voyager is their ISP) who when they try and send email to a domain hosted by XTRA/Spark get a 421 code from Sparks Servers Immediately and repeatedly. Customer is on no known blacklists. Unsure who to contact, obviously I'm guessing business helpdesk isn't likely to know or be able to help as it's not their customer. Does Xtra have a helpdesk for this stuff?

What's up with my connection?
My internet connection has been giving me grief for quite some time now. It seems my connection to the Spark DNS servers falls over on a fairly regular basis. Restarting the modem or resetting DNS settings fixes it.I don't think it's the modem for two reasons.1) It's happened on two modems2) If I set the modem to use google's DNS servers, the problem goes away. The problem resurfaced tonight after I set the modem back to automatic DNS a day or two ago.My partner had no access using Spark DNS, I had no problem using Google. I changed my tablet back to automatic (Spark) and couldn't connect. Changed the modem to google then back to auto, and we're away again. The modem is a TP link TD-W8950N, the previous one was a linksys wag200g. When the DNS servers don't respond, the modem reports no problems.I haven't tried pinging the servers when it's not working, I'll try that next time.

Mixed Messages from Spark
I ordered an iPhone 64GB through Spark on interest free payments and a open plan, I had an email confirming the order and everything.. even says in the email I received - 'Your phone is coming soon! We'll courier it out within 5 working days'. But when speaking to Spark Live Chat they seem to think the phone I ordered is on back order and they won't be getting any more and offered to cancel the order for the 16GB version instead. I haven't and have stuck with the order just incase. The thing I don't understand is that it even let me purchase the phone in the first place - I wouldn't have bothered if I knew they were out of stock, if I try to purchase the phone now it says they're out of stock and you can't even add it to cart, but it never told me that when I placed my order.]Is it possible this is just miscommunication by Spark Support and my phone is on the way or have a just placed an order for a phone i'll never receive? I guess I hasn't been 5 working days but the fact that they can't even provide a tracking number and are saying the order hasn't shipped makes me doubtful. Even a email notifying me from Spark would be nice.Any similar experiences with Spark to offer insight?

Technicolor TG589vn v2 - Hourly WiFi Disconnections?
I have a Technicolor TG589vn v2 which was provided by Spark when my VDSL connection was set up. Everything seems to work fine on the wired LAN, but using a Windows 7 laptop on wireless I am getting disconnected at exactly hourly intervals. The disconnections seem to occur at the same time past-the-hour as the end of the DHCP lease, but the lease lasts 24 hours and the disconnections are every hour. Has anyone seen this problem before? Any ideas how I might fix it?

UFB Outage - 13hrs
We have had Spark fibre installed since 3rd July. Our setup is:Chorus ONT to Huawei HG659b gatewayphone line from POTS port on the ONTgateway connected to 24 port switch, then distributed to various devices/usersmixture of wifi and ethernet connected devicesOur internet connection failed at 8pm Saturday night and returned at 9am Sunday (no changes made or action taken to get it back on the Sunday). The gateway essentially reported an input or cable fault - said to check cable - implying that it wasn't getting any signal from the ONT. The phone line remained on throughout this time. We have had occasional outages over the last few weeks but these have been fixed with a reboot. In last night's case, rebooting both devices didn't fix the problem.I have contacted Spark, but they do not have any record of problems with our connection, so are unable to help. They suggested in future that I disconnect the downstream devices to allow troubleshooting. I am quite certain that this is not a downstream problem. Both wired and wifi connections with the gateway were ok during this time. The Spark online help with respect to the ONT says:Power light - should be on (solid) and greenOptical light - should be on (solid) and greenLAN light - should be on and greenWith the system back up and running I now have:Power light - on (solid) and greenOptical light - flashing on/off about 1 sec frequency, greenLAN light - orange flashing - like a data transfer light say on a hard driveDoes anyone know if the differences in the lights I have noted are significant?regardsRoss

Throttling/shaping on Spark still a thing?
Hi all, We've recently started getting our usage metered (we have 2 TiVos and have been on the 150GB plan with spark for years so haven't ever worried about data as it was always unlimited), and we're about to hit our cap half way through the month. We were looking at moving to the unlimited plan but we've had experience with the last time or 2 spark tried to do unlimited, and it was less than ideal. The lovely team on their online chat said they don't shape traffic, but I've learnt to take their answers with a bit of caution. Can anyone confirm this is the case before we make the switch? Moving ISPs isn't an option either. And also, do we get a static IP still included in the charges?Cheers!Sam.

HB630b LAN activity and flashing LED
Hi, I have an observation that I would I want to clarify if it's normal or not.On the HG630b, the LAN ports flash once a second and send out 512 bytes to the LAN.I'm not sure why. Does it do this on other units people have or do I have a faulty onboard switch? It seems to function perfectly fine. Except all the LAN ports flash exactly every second. I've disconnected everything and just hung a switch of the ports and they still flash every second.I'm guessing the Spark firmware is polling the ports every second for some reason.

Is xtra email id portable when One changes ISP to other than Spark?
HiThis doubt came in my mind. When Telecom was there, XTRA was part of it.Since they split into Chorus, Spark and xtra mailis taken over by yahoo, can one be able to keep his/her xtra email id even after leaving the SPARK as his ISP?

Two Internet Connections, 2 Static IP's. Help with Unblocking Port 25
We have a customer with ADSL, with a Static IP, and port25 is unblocked. They ordered UFB and intend to drop their ADSL. The UFB has it's own Static IP, and I have requested Static IP Port 25 Unblocking for that IP, and it was refused because This Spark Broadband phone number is already unblocked from Port 25 filteringThis is a Naked UFB connection. I understood and called Spark support who said, no problem, they will manually override that and proceeded to do it and said I'd get a confirmation email shortly. 12 hours later the exact same reason was given for the unblock refusal! It's on a different account. How do I get this resolved? We can't block port 25 on the ADSL until it's unblocked on the UFB!

Funny spark tele-sales attempt....
Was phoned by spark earlier, as I am with spark for mobile, but on 2degrees 100/50 UFB with IP phone. They go through the long spiel and eventually ask me to move UFB/phone to them. They say can give package discount if i move to spark 100/20.....so, I say i need faster upload speeds so they go away and come back with an offer for 200/20 UFB... I point out that this is the same upload speed and they say that is all they can offer (nicely) and hang up. I guess this wasn't in their script. Although, I thought Spark do 200/200 , but she didn't offer that.

iPhone 6 Activation - What actually happens?
Hi all,Recently, I've bought an iPhone, and when I'd inserted the SIM from my old phone into the iPhone, the iPhone proceeded to activate itself. This got me thinking, what goes on when it does this? Note: If there is anything proprietary/commercially sensitive to Spark in this scenario, then I understand.CheersVIRIDIAN

Anyone seen this before? Weird pop-up.
While surfing tonight, the following browser window popped up several times. Restarting my Firefox resulted in it reloading several times, with the timer at the top right continuing to countdown. The page has been designed to look scary (and it mentions the NZ Police towards the end). Has anyone else seen this before, and is it legit? Note that I wasn't looking at any of the type of pages they state I was.
