Sadly I've had to move house and lose my fibre connection. I've moved into a place where ADSL is available (which I'm using right now) but wow, talk about a slower connection! Better than nothing though. My 12 month contract with Spark finished in August. Here's the thing though. Fibre is available here and I'd like to place an order but it looks like I have to sign up with Spark for another 12 months - or pay $299? Really? I don't need Netflix or anything like that, and I have my own modem, but why do I need to sign up for a contract again? The install is free, so why do I need to sign up for another 12 months? What if I have to move house again (to somewhere else without fibre)? Am I penalised again?Hoping someone from Spark can shed some light on this before I click the Order button...Thanks :)

Why so difficult to port to Spark?
I have a client on fibre that's with a small local provider and getting poor speeds and i've suggested that they port over to spark - man i wish i'd never suggested it.They are on unison fibre (which Spark support) firstly they spent over a month trying to convince the spark account manager that the ISP they are currently using actually existed - they sent the account manager the invoices from the ISP and all other info but nothing happened, I even suggested just creating a new connection on port 2 of the ONT however Spark don't support that. It wasn't until I sent them a list of unison RSP's that they finally acknowledged that the local ISP existed and apparently put in a work around in the system the enable the porting. But that's not the end of it, it's now been weeks and no porting date - now no communication from the account manager. It's been such a poor experience and totally contrary to all my other dealings with spark, the client is understandably unhappy. What to do when the spark account manager won't even respond?

Transparent proxy ?
Spark dosent do any sort of transparent proxying etc on business connections do they ?Have a job where a particular site is blocked to anyone outside AU - client put request to have access, which was granted and was working perfectly fine for a few weeks - now theyre blocked again and the server owners say they havent changed anything and confirmed the clients static IP is still whitelisted. TIA

Residential UFB Upload Speeds
I am with Spark for more than 6 months now and it has always bugged me that I never reach the advertised 20mbps upload speed. I normally get 15mbps or on a good day 16 when i do my speed test around 4am with WiFi access disabled and modem freshly rebooted and my PC connected directly to the router via gigabit LAN. I have no problems with the DL speeds as from time to time I go over 100mbps.Now I had the chance to get in touch with Spark to query my issue and the response I got from technical support was that apart from sending me a replacement modem, there is nothing they can do. I declined the modem replacement for 2 reasons. First I dont think that is the issue. Two I have 2 spare modems one being the exact same model as the one provided by Spark and get the same issue. Now the main reason for this post is I would like to get some feedback from others as I was also told that the reason there is nothing else they can do is due to my current upload speeds being within acceptable levels. So I asked the question. What is the acceptable level and was told its 50%. So as long as I get 10mbps and up, then thats the end of it. Is this level common with other ISP's?Yes I agreed to the terms up to 20mbps. Hence I am doing my research now in preparation for when my contract ends.

Will Linksys WRT 32X support Spark Fibre VLAN tagging
Hi All, New to the forum. Does anybody know if the hardware in the Linksys WRT 32X supports VLAN tagging for use with Spark fibre? I wish to bypass the supplied Spark router and connect direct to the Chorus box.The hardware is identical to that found in the AC3200 model. I wish to use the 32X with DD-WRT firmware which this model supports. I bought the router from a large, well known computer retailer in NZ who assured me it does support VLAN tagging but I am unable to get the router to connect to Spark and Linksys support are next to hopeless. https://www.linksys.com/us/p/P-WRT32X/ Would anyone be able to advise? Thank you very much

Spark Landline Caller ID
We have a problem with Caller ID on our Spark landline since Daylight Saving started. It's as though the clock has been put back and not forward e.g. if someone calls at the actual time of 10:30am, it shows on Caller ID as 8:30am. Does anyone have any suggestions as both Spark and Uniden can't seem to fix the problem. Thanks.

Spark refusing to honour Sony TV Offer Promotion
I tried to sign up to a new broadband connection today for a new home, enticed by their Sony TV offer promotion which is on their website at https://www.spark.co.nz/shop/internet/sony-tv-offer/However I was shocked when I mentioned this to the phone sales person, that this offer had apparently ended a few days ago. Looking at the online promotion on the Spark website at https://www.spark.co.nz/shop/internet/sony-tv-offer/ which is still being advertised today, there is no end date specified on the offer, so I would expect them to still be honouring it up until the date they removed the advertising. They however refused to honour it saying that the offer had closed. When I gave them the link, they agreed that the advert was still showing online on the Spark website and the offer was still being advertised on their website today, but all they could do was apologise, and they will try to get the offer removed. At this stage I won't be signing up to Spark if they don't honour their own advertising. Anyone know how I can get it honoured, as obviously something that is still being advertised on the Spark website with no specified end date, should still be honoured.?

Spark Delaying Updates for their Android Phones?
So I purchased a spark distributed Nokia 7 Plus. One of the major selling points was that it's an Android One device and therefore you should expect the software to be supported for a reasonable amount of time and to receive timely updates. For me only the security updates were important, but it is nice to receive new versions of Android and the features that come with it. Unfortunately it seems only security patches are available up to July via OTA updates. I did some googling and talked to Nokia support and they have released updates including security patches up to September. Nokia claimed that any delay is due to my Carrier. So I did some more googling and came across this (which I'm assuming is similar to the process for android one approved phones):Carrier Association, and How it Works When you first boot up your phone with a carrier's sim installed, that phone becomes associated to that carrier in Google's database. This is NOT a carrier lock, and it is used by Google for identification purposes. Allow me to demonstrate [Click Here] (https://play.google.com/store?hl=en&tab=w8) (EDIT: Do this on your PC, not your phone) Click the gear icon in the top right and select "Settings" Under my devices, you'll see the carrier association(s) of all your Android devices that currently have your Google account linked. In my case, I have T-Mobile, Verizon, and AT&T for certain phones. My Nexus Player, Nvidia Shield ATV, and LG Watch Style are listed as "No carrier." Google maintains this list and, when they push out an update, all phones associated to a carrier that has approved the update, or a carrier that has no role in the process, receive that update. Carriers that have yet to approve the update are not pushed the update. You can change your carrier association by swapping to a different carrier's sim and rebooting. Or, you can delete your carrier association by powering down, removing the sim (do not reinsert), powering up, and performing a full factory reset. With no sim installed, the fresh phone has no carrier association and will pull the latest available update. Does anyone know if Spark is actually involved in any carrier approval update process, and if it is actually likely to be them delaying updates?

Spark Net Shield service
Spark is launching a new DNS-based protection service called Net Shield. This is available to Spark broadband users and can be managed from their account. As this is DNS-based your network won't be protected if using a third-party DNS (OpenDNS, Google DNS, 1.1.1.1, etc) or a VPN.A free service provide basic protection - websites with harmful content and SafeSearch. A paid option expands this to include blocking sites by categories, scheduling and whitelist access only.

Spark and SIP issues
Hi guys - I'm probably grabbing at straws but just wanted to check. Had a client today who is running an Avaya Phone system with SIP trunks. All of a sudden they couldn't make or receive calls today on arrival at the office. The phone system provider checked everything including with the SIP provider (2Talk) and couldn't see a cause. Nothing has changed with their Firewall in months and no-one played with patching or anything else to explain it.We have a loan 4G router we use as a loaner for clients with outages so we took it out, hooked it up to the 2nd port on the Avaya and the phone people changed it so it was the default route and all their SIP trucks are up and working like a dream.Just wondering if perhaps Spark might be doing something to disrupt SIP traffic in provisioning their own sip offerings or something.I really can't think of any other reason that all of a sudden things would change - Its a Spark service on Enable Fibre in Christchurch.I'll be upfront here- SIP is not my thing - I've dabbled but I don't do anything with SIP offerings for clients and leave it up to the "experts".Its just that nothing has changed at the site for some time so there is really no explanation. I don't think its anything to do with the LAN or ports on the Avaya as they have a Site to Site vpn to an Auckland office with 2 or 3 SIP phones up there and they can make internal calls from the Digital phones patched to the avaya here to the Avaya SIP desk phones in Auckland so that kind of rules out it being a lan related issue.

Spark Wifi calling on domestic VDSL
Good morning,I'm looking for some advice on a simple to use Wifi calling app, or similar. My house runs on Spark naked broadband (copper) and Spark cell phones (Samsung Galaxys), and we do not have landline. The Spark cell phone coverage in the house ranges from OK to miserable depending on where you stand, but the naked (cable vdsl) broadband via the router is strong everywhere.I'm doing more and more work from home and as I spend a lot of time on the phone, I need a good phone line that doesn't become garbled or drop out. Therefore is there anyway I can easily swap my phone from cellular calling to Wifi calling when I'm at home? I've looked at a cell booster, but they're blimmin expensive and I thought I'd explore Wifi calling before I head down this path.Any advice or insights on this is greatly received.

Strange Availability behaviour - Fixed Broadband
In my street, we can only get ADSL , and fibre will come approx March 2019, thats fine no issues with that. But i noticed randomly that 2 homes ( one same side, and one opp side ) have vdsl availability, so i want to know how and why is that possible, why cannot I get it, Is this some sort of preferential treatment of some kind?

Change in performance
Any of the guru's know if there is a issue with connectivity to the US at the mo ? Play D3 on the US servers, usually 200-250ms, but at mo is 750-2000ms.. started yesterday. Aus servers OK, but is a ghost town .. Used a trace route program to ping the servers in the US, and interestingly got the same 200-250ms I see normally ?On Spark UFB 100/30Cheers Chris

VDSL outage unresolved for a week. Very frustrating.
Is there anyone from Spark on here that may be able to assist me please?I've been talking to Spark mainly via Twitter DM, which is working ok, except every other reply is from a different person, I keep going round in circles. My VDSL has been down since Tuesday last week. The modem will connect and very shortly afterwards disconnect. This happens continuously. The Chorus Tech has been (two techs on different days) and thoroughly checked everything on my side of the ETP, replaced the master splitter, checked with his modem and nothing has helped. On the second visit he disconnected the house from the ETP and connected his modem directly to the line coming from the telephone pole and he gets the same issue. So I'm very confident the issue is not my equipment. They have reset the port and fiddled with equipment at the exchange to no avail. A complicating factor (to them, at least) is that my VDSL is very borderline. I upgraded from ADSL two years ago for a noticeable speed increase, even though its at the very bottom end of VDSL speeds. It has worked fine for two years, connecting at about 14k, but with high attenuation stats. I keep going back and forth with Spark, today I'm right back to "do you have a dial tone" level questions. It's become very frustrating and I just wish my case could be delegated to a specific person to see it through to resolution.Any ideas? Thanks,Joseph

HG659b has telnet access - why and is it exploited?
I thought i'd check my modem for open ports. I noticed that 23 (telnet), 53 (dns), 80 & 443 and 8081 are all open.Pretty horrified tbh, because if there are any exploits for this router, they will undoubtedly target these open ports. I have all the file sharing stuff disabled on the router. Are these ports open for Spark to remotely administer/spy on you? I had a google and can't find anything specific for this model of router right now, but who knows. When I telnet to it I get this ATP cli thing:skycity-host:~ ajross$ telnet 2XX-XXX-XX-XX-fibre.sparkbb.co.nzConnected to XXX-XX-XX-XX-fibre.sparkbb.co.nz.Escape character is '^]'.Welcome, you are from 192.168.1.65------------------------------------Welcome to ATP Cli-------------------------------------Login: superadminPassword:Login incorrect. Try again. What is this ATP cli? How can I close it. I believe that the port 80 is open to redirect to 443, which is the admin interface. Again, I want to close this - if I want to admin the router, I'd like to do it on the LAN only. Finally, 8081 is a web service but I can't seem to browse to it properly, I've telnet'ted to it below. What's it for, why is that open too?Escape character is '^]'.GET /HTTP/1.1 401 UnauthorizedConnection: Keep-AliveWWW-Authenticate: Digest realm="HuaweiHomeGateway",nonce="5d65628b9d898ae0112629a952b6f895", qop="auth", algorithm="MD5"Content-Length: 0Connection closed by foreign host.Any help greatly appreciated. I'm not a fan of having my home network open to the Internet!
