I'm sure many thought this day wouldn't come.. However, this Cat is sailing onto new Frontiers. To those of you who will undoubtedly ask why I have left spark, I simply had a great opportunity come up and decided to take the leap.Spark were truly amazing to me. I would have never expected in the space of 4 years i'd go from answering phones to being right up in the thick of delivering new functionality to spark's core platforms. I'm sure the awesome folk left at spark will still be about, now I join to being just another PITA on geekzone ;)

Pixel 4A VoLTE with Spark
I recently received my Pixel 4A (imported via Amazon), am very happy with the phone. I am with Spark and while the Pixel 4A specifications indicate VoLTE is built into the phone there is no option in the phone settings to toggle it on with Spark. I assume that is because Spark have not enabled it. Well aware that its not a Spark supported phone, but hey lets do it for science! It really is an outstanding phone.Short of rooting the phone and forcing it on (which I am comfortable doing, just means factory resetting the phone and dealing with SafetyNet shenanigans) any other way of getting VoLTE turned on?

Please help! Ongoing issue with Landline after moving address (fibre broadband/landline)
If someone from Spark could DM me that'd be great. I can give more detail there. The 0800 service is letting me down big time... I have made a number of calls to Spark's 0800 and have gone around in circles. The latest response was asking "do you still need help?". And that is with an open fault/ticket. It's been a 16-day exercise so far and it's pretty poor... :( Thanks in advance!

Internet drops out around the same time every morning
This issue has been ongoing and I was hoping the Smart Modem firmware update would fix it. However, the latest firmware has installed and we still get the dropouts. So maybe it's not the modem? The issue is the same every day. When we get up in the morning the kids turn on the AppleTV and watch Netflix, etc. Around 15-20 mins after starting to stream, the internet completely drops out for about 1 min. I don't think the modem is rebooting because we can still access our NAS through Infuse but we have no internet connectivity for that 1 minute. We have mostly Apple devices connected by wifi. I did test a windows PC connected by Ethernet and internet also drops. The dropouts don't appear to happen any other time. Just the morning. Smart Modem and 1 Smart Mesh unit. Most devices are connected to the Smart Mesh. We are on VDSL with decent speeds ~60mbps.

New home wiring Fibre ready
Greetings I want to ensure that the lead in is compliant with ADSL and future-proof for fibre. There is a doc from Chorus which gives a general idea, but misses out on specifics. My new home has CAT5/E coming out the wall, and a lead-in which looks like a black coax cable.Does that lead-in normally carry ADSL and later, when fibre is available, fibre?Im assuming that black lead goes to the ENT, and the CAT5/E brings it into the home distribution box. I also assume the CAT5/E would be the power source for the ENT box?Perhaps there is something missing in the system? in the Chorus doc it says there should be a pull-through in the lead-in, which I cant see. Should a box be installed on the wall to tidy things up, or is that normally done by the Chorus technician? There are 2 units side-by side both with the same wiring. Thanks kindly, Al.

Anyone know what's happening to SecureMe?
Howdy,I've heard a sniff that SecureMe is about to be grandfathered/killed off. This will create work for me, which is normally a good thing but I have more than enough already.I think Mako/SecureMe had a good product but I remember they had financial problems and were supported by Spark.I'm not sure if the grandathering is driven by Spark or someone else. What's going on?

Spark NZ enters a Trans-Tasman IoT network sharing agreement
Just received:Spark New Zealand has entered a Trans-Tasman agreement with Australia's longest-running LoRaWAN network operator, The National Narrowband Network Co (NNNCo).The agreement is the first of its kind in the region and will enable mutual access across the respective LoRaWAN IoT (Long-Range Wide Area Internet of Things) networks; meaning businesses on both sides of the Tasman can more easily implement cost-effective smart technology solutions without needing to set up operations in the other country. The new wholesale agreement means Spark can help Parkable, Australasia's fastest-growing parking app, to expand their business in Australia. Toby Littin, Parkable Co-Founder and CEO says, 'Due to customer demand we want to push harder into the Australian market so this agreement will allow us to scale our Parkable offering across the Tasman and simplify our back-end processes. Using the one platform and having a single place to view and analyse data will mean our customers will get even better parking experiences in the future. 'It's exciting to know that we now have access to growing network coverage in Sydney, Canberra, Gold Coast, Tasmania, Melbourne and regional areas in New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria. Those markets have just been unlocked for us, so we are eager to grow and scale.' Spark IoT lead, Tony Agar says, 'As the economy continues to be shaped by COVID-19, we could expect to see more partnerships like this; where carriers and partners work together to enable the deployment and scaling of IoT solutions across markets. 'If we have a customer who wants to deliver services in Australia, they can now do so from the comfort of their offices in Aotearoa, without the need to set up operations across the Tasman. It also means that they can keep visibility and monitor their machinery, assets or infrastructure using their already well-established dashboards and diagnostic tools.' The wholesale arrangement has been enabled with the integration of NNNCo's enterprise data platform N2N-DL into Spark NZ's network core. Data from devices will feed into N2N-DL giving Spark NZ customers access to data on a single platform from devices enrolled in either country. NNNCo CEO Rob Zagarella said, 'We're seeing increasing demand from customers requiring cross-Tasman roaming capabilities as they deploy IoT devices and applications beyond Australia.'We're very happy to now be able to provide a seamless and consistent service with N2N-DL as a customer's single source of aggregation for IoT devices in either country and on either network,' Mr Zagarella added.Notes:- LoRaWAN is a long-range wide area Internet of Things network. It suits battery-powered devices, which send small amounts of data but need to operate for a long time without the battery being replaced.- NNNCo is a leading Australian IoT Enterprise provider and LoRaWAN network operator. The company provides the network layer and technology-agnostic data platform that makes IoT accessible across any industry to enable enterprise-grade solutions for business and government. NNNCo's Enterprise IoT service is deployed using LoRaWAN technology, the globally adopted open standard for secure, carrier-grade IoT connectivity.

Big hassle with Call Forwarding
I'm on Skinny Mobile. My work involves receiving Fuel orders which have been forwarded from a phone which is on the Vodafone network. This has worked perfectly well for the last 4 years. Now suddenly about 6 weeks ago it stopped working. Calls can't be forwarded to me. There's one other guy on the team who is also on Skinny. He can receive the forwarded calls perfectly. I have spent a lot of phone time with skinny reps who say "We don't support call forwarding and can't help" - Yeah I know they don't allow their clients to forward calls but they can't tell me why it is that someone else on my team can receive them, and I used to but now can't. If anyone here has some real tech knowledge about the forwarding process and can shine some light on this it would be very good. I've replaced my sim card, (yet retained my number) - didn't help.If I put my card into a different phone - still can't receive calls. It doesn't seem to matter what network calls me or who does the forwarding to me on whatever phone - I can't get the calls using my Skinny mobile number. Seems to me it's an issue with Skinny Mobile. I've setup a new number on voda prepay but this isn't really the perfect solution because I now have to carry two phones around. MY personal phone and the other one to receive the forwarded calls. There is NO WAY to change the setup - calls MUST be forwarded.Any ideas anyone ?

Upstream network hassles
If you have an issue where it looks like some upstream routing has gone bad, is there anything you can do / is worthwhile doing or are you best just to wait it out?Right now from my Spark Fibre connection I can't get to www.fseconomy.net as it seems there's a massive packet loss heading over to the US. Spark turns on 5G in Auckland
Just received:Spark turned on 5G in downtown Auckland today and has partnered with Auckland Transport (AT) to showcase some of the latest in IoT (Internet of Things) technology and demonstrate what the future could look like for Auckland's CBD with the power of 5G.5G is expected to underpin the widespread deployment of IoT technology with its increased speeds, low latency (or lag) and reliability. To bring this potential to life, Spark and AT have installed IoT enabled infrastructure at Auckland's Wynyard Quarter - including 5G connected lighting, smart benches with charging capability, smart bins, and parking sensors.Spark Technology Lead, Renee Mateparae said: 'We are excited to launch our commercial 5G network in downtown Auckland today, building on the private network we have in place to support Emirates Team New Zealand and the launch of Spark Race Zone last month. Our partnership with AT is about helping bring to life the significant contribution 5G and IoT will make in addressing urban, economic and sustainability challenges across the country.'5G will eventually allow for one million devices to be connected per square kilometre on a continual basis, generating data that will help Governments, Councils and businesses respond quickly, allocate resources wisely and plan for the future, which will ultimately improve services and amenities for New Zealanders.'We know from existing research that IoT applications can improve quality of life significantly by saving us time, improving health and safety outcomes, reducing environmental impact, and boosting social connectedness and civic participation,' said Renee.Smart lighting has been installed in the surrounding streets of Wynyard Quarter's Innovation Precinct, which can now generate heat maps of foot traffic to help AT identify any 'choke points' to better inform future infrastructure investments, as well as monitor air and noise pollution. Some lights are fitted with 5G connected CCTV which could enable better detection of criminal activity, capturing high definition video even at night, and can be dimmed and brightened remotely to help reduce energy consumption.Solar powered smart benches with convenient smart phone and electric scooter charging capabilities have also been installed at the Quarter, connected over Spark's low powered IoT network. Sensors attached to bins can now detect when they're full and could contact the council for service, preventing overflow and reducing the number of rubbish trucks on the road.Auckland Transport Group Manager Technology Solutions, Chris Creighton said the installations at Wynyard Quarter were not just shiny new tech, but real solutions to existing and impending challenges.'We're learning how to use smart infrastructure in a way that works for Auckland so we can leverage applications as they evolve and become more commonplace. For example, we estimate Aucklanders visiting the city can spend up to one third of their journey searching for a carpark, so we're working with Spark to explore ways to help Aucklanders find available carparks quicker by installing 200 smart parking sensors throughout the Quarter.'Creighton said that in the future, AT expects IoT applications powered by 5G could be used to detect incidents such as car crashes or pedestrian accidents and notify the appropriate authorities, reducing the time it takes for emergency services to respond and potentially saving lives.Spark and AT have installed the IoT technology at Wynyard Quarter with key technology partners, NB Smart Cities, Glowbal NZ, SmartSensor Technologies and Parkable with the shared goal of using IoT and data to make better decisions and improve quality of life for people.Spark was excited to have a commercial 5G network up and running in Auckland, with coverage across Britomart, the Viaduct, Commercial Bay and Wynyard Quarter, as well as in North Shore's Takapuna. With 5G available to Spark customers in Auckland, they can now experience 5G speeds firsthand with a 5G ready mobile phone, free of charge, no matter what plan they are on until at least July 2021. Those who want to experience 5G speeds at home can sign up for Spark's Discover 5G Wireless Broadband Plan.

Provisioning issue with Apple Watch on spark?
Hey guys, today I picked up a series 6 Apple Watch from the spark store at Westfield in Riccarton. At the same time I ported my number from 2degrees over which has successfully completed. The spark rep in the mall said to keep the Apple Watch turned off until the number port was completed and then turn it on and it should be preconfigured. Resisting the urge to unbox my new toy I waited until the number port was completed. I could not for the life of me get the Apple Watch to add a data plan tho. After trying unsuccessfully for a couple of hours and resetting both the Apple Watch and iPhone I called spark and they said I would need to head into a spark store, the only one that was open was the palms, a bit of a hike but we got there at 830 and were then told that there was some kind of system error and the watch needs to be re provisioned but the error had frozen the job of the Apple Watch getting linked with my number and there was nothing they could do and I'd have to pop back tomorrow.I know it's probably a bit of an off chance but is there anyone from spark that might be able to have a look at this for me?

Skinny Broadband - is it any good
Currently we are with 2degrees for our broadband. This month without warning they increased their rate by $4.I am not wearing that, so I am looking for another provider.Skinny is my mobile provider and so far I have had good service from them in this area.My location is in Christchurch and I am wondering how Skinny broadband subscribers in ChCh find Skinnys broadband UFB service.Skinny has a rate $16 less per month than 2Degrees but I do wonder if there is still an issue with adding a VOIP service. There use to be a problem with VOIP some time ago.

Skinny Smart Modem VRV9517 Host Name Unavailable
Recently switched to skinny VDSL and setup new VRV9517.Generally seems to work well, though a step back from my 2degrees fritz! Pondering if I should not return the fritz...Raspberry Pi suddenly started having issues with wifi disconnecting and lease expired problems, but that was possibly related to a firmware issue and wifi power management going into standby.Have Pi-Hole doing the DHCP handout. One annoying issue I have found is the device host name is not showing in either the modem control panel or Pi-Hole. Shows up as Name Unavailable / Unknown. Was like this before I added Pi-Hole. But sometimes the device host name does show at random. Is this a bug or a setting change required on the modem? I could override in the static lease config on the pi-hole (would only show on Pi), but when you are checking devices on network, hard to remember all mac address / devices...Another issue is the modem is reporting wifi connected as 2.4g when device shows connected as 5G. Which is correct? Thanks

Bigpipe Smart Modem - port forwarding 443 only works for a couple of minutes
If I open up port 443 on my Arcadyan Smart Modem, it only stays open for a couple of minutes before it starts blocking requests again. The rule itself does not delete from the "Network > NAT > Port Mapping" page. I can fix it for a few minutes by saving the rules again. Alternatively, is it possible to use it as just a model and bridge to my ubiquiti switch? In general, is there any decent documentation for this box? I have been pretty disappointed with this thing as the specs looked good on paper. Can't wait to get back on fibre so I can drop it and connect direct to the ONT.

Spark Calls dropping on iPhone using VOLTE
Hey anyone know what's happening with calls dropping on Spark. We're seeing iPhones 7 and later on both iOS 13 & 14 dropping calls.I've been in contact with faults and they're aware of the issue.volte and voicemails upgrades might be related?Might have to turn of VoLTE and see if that helps. Interesting that it's not listed on their network status page...
