Wireless Broadband Speed
Hi FolksI have a sister who has just recently moved houses. Originally she was meant to get Fibre installed in the first week of the Lockdown Period however this got delayed to the end of May due to how she didn't have ownership of the house at that time.Recently she has moved in, with Spark setting her up on a Spark Wireless Internet Connection. Plugged in via an Ethernet Cable to the Modem, and she's only getting speeds of 13.44 Mbps Download with speeds of 4.82Mbps Upload with a Ping of 41ms.This isn't ideal speeds due to how she is working remotely currently and has to use Citrix to log into the work system, and is finding that videos are also buffering at night when watching Netflix etc.Are these the speeds that she should be getting on 4G Unplan Spark? If not is there anything that can be done to improve them (or anyway that the Fibre installation can be moved up?)Contacting the Spark 0800 number she was told that the speeds are shat they should be and that if she wants to have faster internet she should work between 3am-7am which can't happen due to how she works with clients). We have tried moving the modem to other windows in the house but don't get any increase in speeds.

Skinny Broadband issues zoning and router
Hi, (sorry for the essay)We currently have Skinny Broadband which we have had for the last 5 or so years. Originally we got it at our old house in West Auckland, then when we moved we brought it with us to our current place on a hill in the Swanson area. Skinny has worked well from here for the last two years. Over the last 2 months, it has gradually gotten worse to the point that I need to reset the router 10-20 times a day. Usually, it will bootup and work great for 5 minutes or so before dying.Initially, I thought well maybe I need to boost the signal a bit so I bought 2x4G aerials and placed them on the roof in a diagonal pattern ANT-205's, but really I'm unsure this was necessary as we have always had 3 bars on the router and 4 to 5 bars on the control menu. Now its a consistent 5 bars. What makes it stranger is we often have 40+mb/s upload speeds but now we getting 8 dropping to 1 or 2mb/s download speeds and often it cuts out completely.I then started to think it was router related, I inserted my skinny mobile sim into the router which usually gets 10+mb/s on the phone and it was showing much lower 2 mb/s speeds on the router even with full reception. Does this indicate it is a router issue? Now here is the catch, It turns out now even though I am an urban Auckland, I can see all of Auckland and have decent 4G reception I'm now out of zone for Skinny (when we moved we didn't bother to check as we were in the same general area, we plugged in and away it went), which means even though I have been using their service for the best part of 5 years trouble-free I cannot get a new router (which is 5 years old).My current location does not have VDSL or Fibre and our ADSL copper down the road is in bad shape, im told it offers poor inconsistent ADSL, so I'm limited to few options that are much much more expensive than Skinny and often slower (although now anything would be more consistent). Questions: Does this sound like a router issue? Are there any other things I can try before I give up on skinny?Does skinny have any flexibility in these matters with proven reception and history?I have tried to talk to skinny via there FB chat and was having progress after proving I had great reception and a good track record but due to a change of operator mid chat, he vetoed it completely without reason.Any advice would be appreciatedThanks

Thanx Spark. It was great while it lasted
Ever since we moved to Morrinsville our cell coverage has been crap with everyone. Everyone here now using Spark / Skinny and on a normal day we get zero to 2 bars of coverage. Have to go outside to get a 2FA from the ASB. About 2 weeks into lockdown level 4 suddenly we were getting 4 to 5 bars all the time, was great. Discovered by way of Stuff that Spark had put in a temporary cell site in the local intermediate school. Now that we are moving to level 2 the cell site has been removed and it's back to crap again. There was a proposal last year to put a cell site at the local golf course that would have given great coverage for those on the north and west of Morrinsville but the recently arrived rich NIMBYs blocked it. "Don't want a cell site near where we live, I hardly ever use my cell phone, I have a landline" they said. Unfortunately still no resolution.

Spark 5G launch: 1 July 2020
Today, Spark and Emirates Team New Zealand opened New Zealand's first interactive 5G test lab by starting an official countdown to Spark's proposed 5G network launch date. Spark aims to have New Zealand's first 5G network live on the Auckland Harbour by 1 July 2020 for Emirates Team New Zealand to use as part of its preparation to defend the America's Cup.The lab opening saw both partners talk for the first time about their plans for Spark's 5G technology and how they will use it to give Emirates Team New Zealand an edge in its defence of the 36th America's Cup in 2021. 'Today is an important day on the roadmap to the next generation of mobile technology,' said Spark Managing Director, Simon Moutter. 'It marks the first time in New Zealand that a true 5G pre-commercial network will be turned on and available for Kiwi businesses to explore, learn and create products that will define the future of 5G. The Spark 5G Lab is primarily designed to give New Zealand companies - our customers and partners - easy access to a 5G network so they can experiment with live 5G technology. We want to be the easiest company to work with, with the most collaborative team, and with the best network. We are basing some of our engineers at the lab and will have technical support and a working space available for our customers and partners to come in and collaborate with us on co-creating the 5G future.' With digital technology being seen as key to the America's Cup, Emirates Team New Zealand says the partnership is an important part of their planning and strategy. 'The relationship between Emirates Team New Zealand and Spark will give us an opportunity to have unrestricted access to a 5G network that will help us defend the America's Cup in 2021,' said CEO of Emirates Team New Zealand, Grant Dalton.'We do not necessarily know the full extent of these opportunities yet, but we know they are going to make a huge difference to the race.'Dan Bernasconi, Head of Design at Emirates Team New Zealand, said that in order to win the cup in 2021 they needed to win the innovation race first. 'The America's Cup is as much a technology race as it is a yacht race. We know the scope for 5G technology to help make the boat go faster is significant.'Access to the 5G network and its reduced latency and higher bandwidth means that through the on-water testing stage the Emirates Team New Zealand designers back at base will be able to get data and analytics in real-time. 'This will make a huge difference. In Bermuda our designers had to spend hundreds of hours out on the water on chase boats close to the yacht in order to get data to then upload and analyse once they were back on shore. From there, they would look at what needed to be done for the next test day. 'With 5G our design-thinking can evolve faster, allowing us to explore more design options and buy us more of one of the most precious commodities in the America's Cup - time. This could be a game changer for us,' said Bernasconi. The Spark 5G Lab has a dual purpose. It's primarily designed to be a collaboration space for New Zealand innovators, entrepreneurs and companies like Emirates Team New Zealand to have early access to 5G, so they can test and develop products and experiences that will define the future. The lab will also host technologies that showcase some of the possibilities and benefits of 5G such as robotics, virtual reality, facial recognition, Internet of Things (IoT), smart cities, emergency services drones and driverless cars.'We believe that most of the amazing things you can do with 5G are yet to be invented, so it is crucial we collaborate with businesses like Emirates Team New Zealand to start co-creating the future of 5G,' said Moutter.'Spark is fully committed to helping Emirates Team New Zealand innovate, test and push the boundaries of technology in their quest to defend the cup, and we are thrilled they are the first partner to have jumped on board to start testing the 5G network with us through this facility,' said Moutter. 'We'll be aiming to support real-time analytics via the 5G network to help make the boat go faster.'Tina Symmans, the Chair of Americas Cup Event Ltd, said that 5G would help provide a spectator experience that New Zealand has never seen before. 'Imagine being able to sit on your sofa and experience being 'on the boat' through virtual reality or live streaming the online race data while you are standing on North Head with thousands of the other spectators - watching the boats in action. We could have driverless cars taking people around the cup village, ensure traffic management and safety is catered for through smart city connectivity, even down to sensors telling us when rubbish bins are full and where to park,' said Symmans. Spark 5G Lab is located in Auckland's Wynyard Quarter Innovation Precinct, near the America's Cup team bases. For more information please visit www.spark5glab.co.nz.

Netflix Activation renewal?
Ive just switched from VDSL to UFB (also now switching from Fibre 100 to the 1GB plan, whilst removing the phone line). The unplan entertainment. In the process its removed my netflix subscription. Ive looked at the netflix page on spark and its asking me to upgrade to an entertainment plan and still listing my old landline number. When I spoke to someone yesterday about changing plans he was very very vague on when this would be fixed and said I might get an email about it sometime maybe. Anyone have any ideas on how long this normally takes? I can go back to watching Amazon Video but the flatmates arent at all happy they have lost their netflix!

Spark prepay casual: how long will my credit last?
I just bought on TradeMe a Spark SIM prepay card with a nice number. I intend to use it only for receiving calls / TXT in NZ, and maybe to make calls in emergencies if my regular Vodafone is down. On the Spark website, I cannot find any information regarding the expiry date of credit for casual prepay. Does anyone know how long will a credit of, say, $20 last?

Apple Watch showing "phantom" eSIM from Spark Digital - why will it not go away?
I have an Apple Watch on a Spark Digital connection that appears to have an active eSIM. The issue: this shouldn't even be possible as it's not an offering, yet here I am.The plan itself is sitting on "Activating" in the Apple Watch app. When removed it comes right back immediately. I have even gone so far as to factory reset both the phone & the Watch, removing the plans in both cases, and it STILL keeps coming back.I called today and spoke with no less than 5 people between Spark Digital faults, MAC team and Consumer Faults, even getting transferred to an internal provisioning team at one point. The calls were dropped twice, I was hung up on & even gave me an inactive phone number to call back and yet nobody can see the active SIM card. Can someone from Spark please PM me to get this sorted?

Problems with new smart modem dropping connection
I recently got a new modem to replace our old huawei hg659 as the 2.4ghz stop working. The new modem shipped out was a smart modem (Arcadyan VRV9517), this works fine until we get randomly dropped of the internet, this happens a few times a day.In the logs I see this:May 15 16:57:38 VRV9517 daemon.info pppd[4700]: [15:05:2020 04:57:38] LCP terminated by peerMay 15 16:57:38 VRV9517 daemon.info pppd[4700]: [15:05:2020 04:57:38] Connect time 240.0 minutes.May 15 16:57:38 VRV9517 daemon.info pppd[4700]: [15:05:2020 04:57:38] Sent 1218542 bytes, received 11640435 bytes.May 15 16:57:38 VRV9517 daemon.debug pppd[4700]: [15:05:2020 04:57:38] Script /etc/ppp/ip-down started (pid 8893)May 15 16:57:38 VRV9517 daemon.debug pppd[4700]: [15:05:2020 04:57:38] sent [LCP TermAck id=0x9e]May 15 16:57:38 VRV9517 daemon.debug pppd[4700]: [15:05:2020 04:57:38] Script /etc/ppp/ip-down finished (pid 8893), status = 0x0May 15 16:57:41 VRV9517 daemon.notice pppd[4700]: [15:05:2020 04:57:41] Connection terminated.May 15 16:57:41 VRV9517 daemon.notice pppd[4700]: [15:05:2020 04:57:41] Modem hangupThe times I see the logs it always seems to say Connect time 240.0 minutes. Can anyone tell me what LCP terminated by peer means?I have contacted skinny and we got another modem sent out after they checked the connection from their end with a 24 hour test and said nothing was disconnecting that they could see. They are trying to say it is a connection problem at our house but I just can't see how we would start having connection problems the day we get the new modem, this is either a very big coincidence which i accept is possible but I am trying to see what this all means before splashing out money to get someone in to check my cables. If anyone can help me that would be greatly appreciated.Cheers

New Install - Bigpipe Modem - Modem functionality
Hi,Just thinking about switching our ISP over to Bigpipe, and wanted to check if the Bigpipe modem (I understand it is a Huawei HG659b?) is able to do the following as delivered from Bigpipe: - Use the USB port to share a printer- (not important for now but....) Use an ATA port for VOIP phone. Does the stock Bigpipe firmware allow the use of either of the above? Or are they disabled. Thanks for your help

Treatment of Elderly customers - not good enough
A bit of a rant that's not Spark specific but related to most ISPs and companies in NZ... I've been helping my neighbour in her late 70s get setup with internet/phone. Her ISP has been acquired and she wanted a change now that we have fibre available. For starters - We had to put her onto wireless temporarily because Spark said they couldn't port her landline number directly to fibre. Ok, fair enough. The modem was sent out over a week ago and we all accept things will take longer to get to people at the moment. However, Spark have said that the wireless modem has been 'activated'. Despite the tracking number saying the modem is still at the depot in Manukau. This has cut off her landline and internet. No problem, I'll hop on live chat or book a call. Both services are down and non functional. I left private messages on Facebook and no response after two hours.Yea, I know 'Covid'... But does anyone else think this is totally piss poor? It's bad enough that they get slammed $10 for phone line, $8 for national calls, $14 for voicemail and limited or no options for low usage internet plans. These people live on their landlines. Particularly when they live alone like my neighbour.

Was it just bad luck and that support person just doesn't know stuff?Any ideas? Thanks :)

I mostly use RDP and have a unlocked iPhone 11 I'll hotspot or USB connect to my laptop.

Spark won't turn on the internet -_-
Hey allHoping to get some advice/tips.A week or so ago we booked in a change of address with Spark to get broadband switched over on Thursday (21st).Thursday comes and goes, no internet. So we call Spark who say the date was wrong in their system, and it would be switched on on Friday (22nd).Friday comes and goes, no internet. So call Spark again, apparently UFF got the date wrong and it would go live Saturday (today).Well, it's the end of Saturday. By the time I thought to call them again, their call center had closed. Has anyone had any experiences with this? Can I call UFF directly? The house has fiber installed, ONT is good to go, so it just needs to be switched on at their end I guess. I'm told it's pretty straight forward.Any tips? Should I just keep calling? Is there an easier way? Maybe I should just be patient..Cheers.
