Connecting to another router to a HG659b

So for some reason I can't get ADSL stable when trying to setup a HG659b but figured I'd connect from the WAN port of the 659 to a HG630 (where ADSL works fine).

Using the WAN port from the 659 to a LAN port on the 630 should work I figured, and even though the 659 shows internet is connected, I can't ping the 630 from the 659 and no internet works from LAN clients. Essentially I want to do the reverse of this: https://www.spark.co.nz/help/internet-data/equipment/huawei/hg659-gateway/setup-bridge-mode-huawei-hg659-hg659b/

clients (10.1.0.x) -> HG659 (10.1.0.254) -> WAN to LAN port -> HG630 (10.1.1.254) -> Internet.

I realise I should just get ADSL working on the 659 but don't really feel like being tethered to phone today :D
